HIPAA and Patient Confidentiality

Your safety, privacy, and confidentiality are our highest priorities.

We are committed to protecting medical information about you. In addition, The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has set forth regulations to protect your health information.

You will receive at registration, if you have not already, the "Rochester Regional Privacy Notice ." This document describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information.

You can restrict information from individuals who call the hospital by "opting-out" of the hospital directory. When you register with the hospital, the staff will explain this to you and give you the opportunity to "opt-out." In an effort to protect your personal health information while you are here as an inpatient, you will be asked for the name(s) of individual(s) with whom you permit the hospital staff to discuss your condition and healthcare. An example may be your spouse and/or loved one. We respect your right to privacy while in the hospital and confidentiality of all information and records regarding your care.

Friends and relatives who want to check on your condition may call "Patient Information" at:

  • Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic: (585) 922-4528
  • Newark-Wayne Community Hospital: (585) 922-4528
  • Rochester General Hospital: (585) 922-4528
  • United Memorial Medical Center: (585) 343-6030
  • Unity Hospital: (585) 723-7015

We are permitted to provide a statement of condition only. We will not provide this or any other information, including acknowledgement that you are at the Hospital, or if you have "opted-out" of the hospital directory.
